August 5th 2018 we left Belgium for our 1-year-honeymoon.
Where will we go?
Asia, Oceania and maybe parts of the Americas.
Do we plan everything in advance?
Hell no. Yentl can’t even decide which socks he will be wearing tomorrow.
But we must have some plan, right? Our initial plan was:
The first 3 countries will be Sri Lanka, the Maldives and India.
Probably we’ll book our plane tickets for these 3 countries already. Why? Because the Maldives are crazy expensive and we don’t want to come home early. So if we plan our stay in the Maldives a bit, we’ll be able to save a lot of money 🙂
After India we’ll go to the Andaman islands (part of India too) and from there on we’ll go to Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam or Laos.
The order of these countries will be depending on the prices of the plane tickets.
Around the 5th of February 2019 we might pay China a visit to celebrate the Chinese New Year there.
Afterwards we’ll head south towards Indonesia (Bali is high on Katrijn’s bucket list 😉 ), Singapore, Timor, … And then finally we’ll head east towards Australia and New Zealand (and probably some islands floating around these two countries).
If (yes mom, only if) we have time left, we might pay some Southern American countries a visit.
Our updated plans (7/12/2018):
We’ll visit Hong Kong, Ma Cau, Taiwan and Dubai (with Katrijn’s parents) before New Year.
We’ll then fly to Cambodia to celebrate New Year with one of our colleagues. After we’ve explored Cambodia we’ll do either Laos or North Thailand.
Around the end of Januari we’ll meet up with Yentl’s mom and grandmom in Bangkok and they’ll join us for 10 days of Thailand (nothing specific here as they’ll read this ;)). We might take another diving course in Thailand and move further south to Malaisia.
Currently we’re thinking of going to Australia and New Zealand next as the weather will be worse if we go 2 months later. We’re going to rent a van for one of these 2 (or both) and try to enjoy the van life for 1 or 2 months.
We’ll take a plane back to Indonesia or the phillipines and then after these 2 countries we might head further east (via Hawaii as there are always cheap flights to Honolulu) to the Americas. This will of course be depending on the prices of the flights…
Will you work during your trip or how will you pay for this trip?
Normally we won’t work on our trip (unless maybe in Australia & New Zealand as these are the most expensive countries). We’ll try to stick to a daily budget. We haven’t decided on how much this will be yet, but we will soon (as of december we still haven’t, but we try to travel as cheap as possible).
We both started saving money for traveling when we were younger and we kept doing this so we’ll make good use of these savings now.
